Is this a dream or a nightmare for the channel? The VAR Guy is thrilled to hear Dell has acquired Everdream, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) specialist. But the folks over at those old channel publications will likely ask more questions about Dell’s intentions in the managed services market.
You’ll recall that Dell’s acquisition of Silverback Technologies, the MSP platform provider, attracted a lot of concern from VARs, aspiring MSPs and established service providers. But is Dell really all that bad for the channel and the MSP market? Or is The VAR Guy biased because he owns a few shares in the PC giant.
Terms of the Everdream acquisition weren’t disclosed. However, it’s clear Dell has big plans for the company. “The planned Everdream acquisition is a significant step in Dell’s next-generation service offerings and provides Dell an expanded presence in the rapidly growing SaaS-enabled managed services market,” said Steve Schuckenbrock, Dell senior vice president. “Everdream has an extremely talented team that has developed industry leading technology enabling customers and partners to easily and affordably manage PCs from anywhere in the world.”
Hmmm. Too bad Schuckenbrock (say that 10 times fast) didn’t mention channel partners in his prepared statement. Solutions partners will surely get nervous about this move. But The VAR Guy himself applauds it.
